Diamonds are women's Best Friend

Let me share some of my insights of how to choose a good diamond.

First, the most important part is to set a budget, no point blindly looking and every single diamond is to your likings. That my friend, will lead you to a very good friend of mine, he works in mortgage department. After you have done setting a budget you feel comfortable with, BE BOLD and WALK IN.

You will be greeted warmly depending how you dress. Usually, walking in as a couple get better services than walking in alone, t-shirts and torn jeans will get special services from our friendly fat Guard that carries usually with him, either a cut off shotgun or a rifle. Don't be surprise if you caught him writing your name at his bullet just in case.

Thirdly, tell the lady or male assistant your require service, like " I want to buy a diamond ring for my GF: engagement, proposal, anniversary, forgiveness, Et cetera. Also let her know your budget so she doesn’t bring you her shop's prize possession. You are ready to move on to choose the color and the clarity of that stupid stone.

So imagine this,

A diamond that has Clarity of :FI and Color Scale of : D and is 1 carat would cost= RM 175,000 or more

Whereelse a Diamond with clarity : I2 and Color Scale of : Z and is 3 carat would cost = RM 5,000 or less

Go figure

Here’s what you need to know if you’re investing in her lifetime weird stone. Buy a certified diamond if only you want to:

1. Trade it for a bigger nicer diamond next time
2. Determine the cut/clarity/color
3. Recognition Worldwide
4. The comfort of knowing you bought something Legitimate and for your own sanity sake, a REAL DIAMOND

Otherwise, if you don’t need the above, you can always get what the gemologist called these: “Commercial Diamond usually cut by Bulgarian” I really don’t get it; commercial diamonds means you can use it to cut glass at your free time?

Feeling smarter at diamonds already? You still need to determine the settings of the diamond. This is the silver/gold/white gold/platinum ring that holds that “Precious” together.

The ever popular diamond settings would have been:

1. Solitaire
2. Leo Diamonds
   
3. Bands
4. Etoile
5. Lucida
6. Legacy

Is best you consider her hand in this manner.

1. Big fat hands, go for big embedded thick settings
2. Small fragile hands go for thin protruding settings

There, you’re smarter and almost there to get yourself a really good diamond with really good settings and can tell her/him you choose it from top to bottom. From metallurgy to gems to craftsmanship.

Please keep this in mind that almost all uncertified diamonds you can achieve up to 60% or more in price reduction. All you have to do is keep bugging them until either your eyes or theirs bleed first. Certified Diamonds gets lower discount but is not none at all. So all those years of bargaining in Petaling Street will come in handy
